ID3v1.1 tag for .mp3 files: Python parsing library

ID3v1.1 tag is a method to store simple metadata in .mp3 files. The tag is appended to the end of file and spans exactly 128 bytes.

This type is supposed to be used on full .mp3 files, seeking to proper position automatically. If you're interesting in parsing only the tag itself, please use id3v1_1::id3_v1_1_tag subtype.

This page hosts a formal specification of ID3v1.1 tag for .mp3 files using Kaitai Struct. This specification can be automatically translated into a variety of programming languages to get a parsing library.

Usage

Runtime library

All parsing code for Python generated by Kaitai Struct depends on the Python runtime library. You have to install it before you can parse data.

The Python runtime library can be installed from PyPI:

python3 -m pip install kaitaistruct

Code

Parse a local file and get structure in memory:

data = Id3v11.from_file("path/to/local/file.mp3")

Or parse structure from a bytes:

from kaitaistruct import KaitaiStream, BytesIO

raw = b"\x00\x01\x02..."
data = Id3v11(KaitaiStream(BytesIO(raw)))

After that, one can get various attributes from the structure by invoking getter methods like:

data.id3v1_tag # => get id3v1 tag

Python source code to parse ID3v1.1 tag for .mp3 files

id3v1_1.py

# This is a generated file! Please edit source .ksy file and use kaitai-struct-compiler to rebuild

        Note that string encoding is not specified by standard, so real
        encoding used would vary a lot from one implementation to
        another. Most Windows-based applications tend to use "ANSI"
